R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, In July 2002 one of the world's foremost petrochemical firms, the Chevron Phillips Chemical Company, moved its world headquarters to a new eight-story, 200,000-square-foot building in The Woodlands; and WHEREAS, The company was founded three years ago as a joint venture of Phillips Petroleum Company and ChevronTexaco Corporation, two firms that have had tremendous success in the petrochemical and plastics industries since World War II; along with its affiliates, the Chevron Phillips Chemical Company (CPChem) is a leading producer of olefins and polyolefins and a top supplier of such products as aromatics, alpha olefins, styrenics, specialty chemicals, piping, and proprietary plastics; and WHEREAS, CPChem employs nearly 6,000 people in eight countries, and the decision to move its global headquarters to The Woodlands is only the latest commitment the company has made to expand and solidify its presence in Texas; the company currently maintains an impressive array of facilities, including research labs and manufacturing plants, in communities that include Baytown, Borger, Brownwood, Conroe, Kingwood, Orange, Pasadena, Plano, Port Arthur, Sweeny, and Waxahachie; in October 2002 it announced the creation of new cyclohexane production facilities at its Port Arthur plant, and this year CPChem has inaugurated a new facility in La Porte, the La Porte Ryton Compounding Facility; and WHEREAS, An exemplary employer, the corporation has helped to keep our state at the forefront of technical innovation and manufacturing safety, and several CPChem facilities have won recognition from the Texas Chemical Council, the EPA Performance Track Program, and the Clean Texas Partner program; in only a few short years the Chevron Phillips Chemical Company has firmly established itself as an enterprise of importance to the State of Texas, and we join together in commending the company on its decision to move its world headquarters to The Woodlands; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby honor the Chevron Phillips Chemical Company for its many economic contributions to The Woodlands and the Lone Star State and extend to its owners, officers, and employees warmest best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Chevron Phillips Chemical Company as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
