R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Patricia Jeanne Deeds of Houston on
April 23, 2003, has deeply saddened the family and many friends of
this beloved Texan; and
WHEREAS, A native of Oxford, Nebraska, Mrs. Deeds was born on
September 19, 1931, and she spent her formative years living on a
farm in St. Francis, Kansas; she went on to attend the University of
Kansas, where she met her future husband, Charles; and
WHEREAS, The couple were married in 1952, and shortly
thereafter they moved to Houston, where Mrs. Deeds became actively
involved in state politics; she was the Democratic Party precinct
chair in Senate District 17 for more than two decades and served as
a regional coordinator for the district's steering committee; and
WHEREAS, Patricia Deeds was a woman who loved cats,
gardening, sewing, and cooking, and while she will be greatly
missed, her memory and her commitment to democratic principles and
social justice will live on in the hearts and minds of the many
people whose lives she touched; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Patricia Jeanne
Deeds and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to
her husband, Charles T. Deeds; to her sons Charles, and his wife,
Tinh, and Robert; to her grandchildren, Rafferty and Aileen; to her
brother, Robert Corder; and to her many other relatives and
friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Patricia
Jeanne Deeds.
