R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, The recent economic recession has had a detrimental 
effect throughout this state and nation, but Valley residents have 
been especially hard hit because of widespread poverty in the area; 
and
	WHEREAS, In San Benito, however, the economy is gaining 
strength in an impressive manner; its city sales tax growth rate is 
in the double digits and is the second highest among the largest Rio 
Grande Valley cities; and
	WHEREAS, A number of important factors contribute to the 
growth of the city's economy, including annexation, growth in 
construction, new businesses locating in the area, road improvement 
projects, and other infrastructure development projects; and
	WHEREAS, San Benito's improving economy is an exciting 
development in the Valley, and the residents of the area can look to 
the future with optimism that this growth will bring lasting and 
far-reaching benefits; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas 
Legislature hereby congratulate the City of San Benito on the 
notable growth in its city sales tax revenue over the last five 
months; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for the city as an expression of high regard by the Texas 
House of Representatives.
