R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives is pleased to recognize Vidal Martinez on his receipt of a Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Houston Alumni Organization; and WHEREAS, Mr. Martinez was honored at the Houston Alumni Organization Awards Dinner on April 11, 2003, at the University Hilton Hotel; the men and women selected for these prestigious tributes have been unwavering in their service and support in behalf of the University of Houston (UH); and WHEREAS, The Distinguished Alumnus Award is given each year to UH alumni whose contributions have benefited society as well as reflected favorably on their alma mater; each recipient has shown an ongoing commitment to maintaining the growth and stature of the university; and WHEREAS, A 1977 graduate of the UH Law Center, Mr. Martinez is a partner with the firm of McFall, Martinez, Sherwood, Breitbeil & Sullivan, P.C.; in addition to his expertise in the arena of international law, he is also highly regarded as a speaker and author and for his generosity with his time as a volunteer; and WHEREAS, Mr. Martinez has worked for the betterment of his community in his roles as a Port of Houston Authority commissioner, a University of Houston System regent, a chairman of the State Bar of Texas board, and as a director on the boards of the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, the Texas Department of Commerce, the Greater Houston Partnership, and the Methodist Health Care System; and WHEREAS, In 2002, he was named the top "Go-To-Lawyer" in Texas for international law based on a peer review by 72,000 of the state's lawyers and judges; in addition, his well-deserved accolades include being named among the Jaycees' "Five Outstanding Young Houstonians" and "Five Outstanding Young Texans"; and WHEREAS, Vidal Martinez's outstanding leadership and untiring devotion to the University of Houston and his community have truly enhanced the lives of his fellow citizens, and he is a notable role model for all those who are privileged to know or know of him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable Vidal Martinez on his receipt of a Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Houston Alumni Organization and extend to him best wishes for success and happiness in his future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Martinez as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
