H.R. No. 1422


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives is pleased to recognize Larry and Joanne Doherty on their receipt of a Distinguished Service Award from the Houston Alumni Organization; and WHEREAS, The Dohertys were honored at the Houston Alumni Organization Awards Dinner on April 11, 2003, at the University Hilton Hotel; and WHEREAS, The Distinguished Service Award is given each year to the University of Houston (UH) alumni who exemplify exceptional leadership and loyalty to their alma mater and the Houston Alumni Organization; the men and women selected for these prestigious tributes have been unwavering in their service and support in behalf of UH; and WHEREAS, Obtaining both his bachelor of science and his law degrees at UH, Mr. Doherty is board certified in probate and estates; he is a partner in Doherty Long Wagner, LLP; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Doherty received her law degree from UH and recently retired from active practice; her contributions to her community include work with the Greater Houston Women's Foundation and serving as chair of the Harris County Education Foundation; and WHEREAS, The Dohertys' commitment to their profession and to the university is reflected in the establishment of the Larry and Joanne Doherty Chair in Legal Ethics at the UH Law Center; through their outstanding leadership and exceptional efforts they have contributed greatly to the University of Houston and their community, and they truly merit special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Larry and Joanne Doherty on their receipt of a Distinguished Service Award from the Houston Alumni Organization and extend to them best wishes for success and happiness in their future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Doherty as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
