R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives is pleased to recognize
Dr. Kathryn "Kaye" Stripling on her receipt of a Distinguished
Alumna Award from the Houston Alumni Organization; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Stripling was honored at the Houston Alumni
Organization Awards Dinner on April 11, 2003, at the University
Hilton Hotel; the men and women selected for these prestigious
tributes have been unwavering in their service and support in
behalf of the University of Houston (UH); and
WHEREAS, The Distinguished Alumna Award is given each year to
UH alumnae whose contributions have benefited society as well as
reflected favorably on their alma mater; each recipient has shown
an ongoing commitment to maintaining the growth and stature of the
university; and
WHEREAS, Superintendent of the Houston Independent School
District since 2001, Dr. Stripling heads the nation's seventh
largest school district, encompassing 30,000 employees, 210,000
students, and an operating budget of $1.3 billion; her energies are
directed to maintaining an outstanding corps of teachers, upgrading
facilities, decentralizing resources available to schools, and
making technological tools accessible to teachers; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Stripling graduated from UH with a master's
degree with emphasis in special education and a doctorate with
emphasis in curriculum and instruction; over the course of an
exemplary career that has spanned nearly four decades, this
esteemed educator and administrator has demonstrated her
dedication to her profession and to young people in the roles of
teacher, principal, assistant superintendent, and district
superintendent; and
WHEREAS, A member of the Houston Alumni Organization Alumni
Council, she oversees the Kaye Stripling Scholarship Fund and is a
participant in Class XXI of the American Leadership Forum; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Stripling's outstanding leadership and untiring
devotion to the University of Houston and her community have truly
enhanced the lives of her fellow citizens, and she is a notable role
model for all those who are privileged to know her or know of her;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Kathryn "Kaye" Stripling on her
receipt of a Distinguished Alumna Award from the Houston Alumni
Organization and extend to her best wishes for success and
happiness in her future endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Dr. Stripling as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
