R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Joe K. Sample on April 20, 2003, has brought a great loss not only to his family, but also to the residents of Diboll and East Texas; and WHEREAS, A native of the Lone Star State, he was born in Pineland, attended Lamar University, and received a bachelor's degree in marketing before beginning his notable career with Temple-Inland Forest Products Corporation in 1962; from his initial post as a sales trainee, he moved on to hold progressively more responsible positions, retiring in March 2003 as senior vice president; and WHEREAS, Known for his genuine concern for the well-being of his fellow employees, Mr. Sample could be counted on to offer help in times of need; further, this highly regarded individual shared his smile and his good will with the residents of his community and he worked diligently in their behalf; and WHEREAS, His volunteerism included involvement with Temple-Inland's History Center, the Lottie and Arthur Temple Civic Center, and the annual Diboll Day event; a past chair of the Diboll Booster Club, he served First Bank and Trust-East Texas as a director, the Angelina County Chamber of Commerce as a board member, and the Lufkin/Angelina County Economic Development Partnership as an executive committee member; and WHEREAS, Mr. Sample was affiliated with numerous industry organizations, including the Engineered Wood Association, the Texas Forestry Association, the Southern Forest Products Association, the Southern Pine Inspection Bureau, the American Wood Council, and the American Forest and Paper Association; and WHEREAS, Joe Sample was a very giving man who was deeply committed to his family, friends, and community, and the blessing of his life will be forever cherished by those who were privileged to share his love and friendship; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Joe K. Sample and extend sincere sympathy to his wife, Kathy Sample; to his children, Joel, Kim, Gay, and Amanda; and to the many other friends and relatives of this fine man; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in memory of Joe K. Sample.
