R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Bracewell & Patterson L.L.P. held its first annual
Big Book Party in May 2003 to encourage and support children's love
of reading; and
WHEREAS, For nearly 60 years, Bracewell & Patterson has
maintained a commitment to children's charities and to enhancing
young people's quality of life; in addition to generous donations
to children's organizations as well as countless hours of volunteer
service, the law firm has spent the past three decades working to
advance the nation's school system in areas such as desegregation,
special education, and student rights and privacy issues; and
WHEREAS, Planned in six cities, the Big Book Party featured
Bracewell & Patterson volunteers reading from their favorite
children's books and some acting out the stories; in addition to the
event held in Houston, Bracewell's Big Book Party visited area
grade schools in Corpus Christi, Dallas, Washington, D.C., Austin,
and San Antonio; and
WHEREAS, This special literacy event, which included
presentations for parents about the value of encouraging their
children to read, will be of lasting benefit to the lives of many
and truly merits special recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby commend Bracewell & Patterson for sponsoring the
Big Book Party and extend to all participants best wishes for the
future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Bracewell & Patterson as an expression of high regard
by the Texas House of Representatives.
