H.R. No. 1442
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The community of Georgetown and the State of Texas
suffered a great loss with the death of Robert "Skip" Morse, judge
of Williamson County Court at Law No. 2, on April 12, 2002, at the
age of 69; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Ball High School in Galveston, Judge
Morse attended Southwestern University, where he received his
bachelor's degree in business administration, before serving in the
United States Army from 1954 to 1956; four years later, he earned
his doctor of jurisprudence degree from The University of Texas
School of Law and then embarked on a successful career in the fields
of law and finance; and
WHEREAS, This accomplished Texan brought exceptional
business acumen to his work at the Certified Savings Association,
serving as attorney, president, and chairman over the course of his
illustrious 24-year tenure; a municipal judge for the City of
Georgetown from 1966 to 1971, he maintained a successful private
law practice for more than three decades and in 1991 became a judge
with Williamson County Court at Law No. 2, an office he held with
distinction until his passing in 2002; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his work as a public servant, Judge
Morse was well known throughout the community for his work as a
dedicated civic leader in behalf of a host of organizations,
including the Georgetown Rotary Club, the Georgetown
Sesquicentennial Commission, and the Greater Georgetown Area
Chamber of Commerce; a devoted member of the First United Methodist
Church, he joined with his wife of nearly five decades, Jo Ann, in
taking immense delight over the years in the couple's four children
and six grandchildren; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Judge Robert "Skip"
Morse and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to
his wife, Jo Ann Long Morse; to his daughters and son-in-law,
Elizabeth L. "Libis" Gray and Deborah and William Ford; to his sons
and daughters-in-law, Robert and Suzanne Morse and Gordon and Mary
Morse; to his grandchildren, Meredith Lind Ford, Brandon D. L.
Morse, William Garrett Ford, Houston E. L. Morse, Jennifer S.
Morse, and Sydney E. Morse; to his sisters, Patricia McNeely and
Anna M. Dodge; to his brother, Bleecker Lansing Morse, Jr.; and to
his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House
of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Judge
Robert "Skip" Morse.
