H.R. No. 1444


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to honor retired United States Air Force Major General Richard D. "Dick" Murray of El Paso for his outstanding contributions to this state and nation; and WHEREAS, A native of Shreveport, Louisiana, General Murray is a graduate of Baylor University, Squadron Officer School, and Air Command and Staff College; while in college, he was a member of the Air Force Reserve Officers' Training Corps, and with his 1954 commission he began an outstanding career in the Air Force that spanned 31 years; and WHEREAS, Initially assigned as base budget officer at Webb Air Force Base in Texas, he went on to distinguish himself in posts across the globe, including Spain and Vietnam; a former deputy director of budget at the Pentagon, General Murray retired in 1985 as commander of the Army and Air Force Exchange Service; today, this esteemed gentleman keeps a busy schedule as president of the National Association for Uniformed Services; and WHEREAS, Among his many well-deserved accolades, he has been awarded the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces Honor Medal 1st Class, and Republic of Vietnam Air Service Medal Honor Class; and WHEREAS, Throughout his lifetime, General Murray has brought honor, courage, and commitment to all his endeavors, and his significant efforts in behalf of his fellow citizens are truly exemplary; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby commend Major General Richard D. "Dick" Murray for his admirable record of service in behalf of Texas and the United States and extend to him best wishes for continued success and fulfillment; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for General Murray as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
