R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Lillie Marie Alonzo Harrison has been a leading
community activist in Harris County for more than five decades; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the years, Ms. Harrison has given
tirelessly of her time and talents to such organizations as the Gulf
Coast Community Action Agency in an effort to better meet Texans'
basic needs; she has also been a party to groundbreaking lawsuits
that have furthered equal rights for African Americans in Harris
County; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed woman is a trailblazer who, in 1949,
helped to found the Harris County Council of Organizations, a
notable organization that works to promote community and political
activism by African Americans in Harris County, and her countless
efforts in behalf of her fellow citizens have earned her the lasting
respect and admiration of a great many people; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby commend Lillie Marie Alonzo Harrison for her
meritorious service to Harris County as a community and political
leader; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Harrison as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
