R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A. B. Chambers became the first African American in the State of Texas to be appointed to the post of deputy constable in 1963, and 10 years later he became the first African American constable in Harris County; and WHEREAS, Mr. Chambers is a trailblazer who, in 1949, helped to found the Harris County Council of Organizations, a notable organization that works to promote community and political activism by African Americans in Harris County; and WHEREAS, A. B. Chambers has dedicated 32 years of his life to law enforcement and to improving his community and the State of Texas; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby commend A. B. Chambers for his meritorious service to Harris County as a law enforcement official, public servant, political leader, and community activist; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Chambers as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
