H.R. No. 1448
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, After 17 years, Clint Independent School District
(ISD) is saying goodbye to one of its finest teachers, Sara J. Long,
and it is indeed appropriate to recognize this dedicated music
teacher at this time; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Sul Ross State University, Ms. Long
joined the faculty of Clint ISD in 1986 and held multiple positions
during her tenure; she served as music instructor at William David
Surratt Elementary School until 1992, vocal music and general music
instructor at Clint Junior High School until 1995, and vocal music
and general music instructor at Clint High School until 2003; and
WHEREAS, Choirs under Ms. Long's direction have earned
excellent and superior division ratings in the UIL Region XXII
Concert Sight-reading Contest since 1992, and the dedication she
has demonstrated to her students has earned her great respect
throughout the community; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Long has been a member of the Texas Music
Educators Association since 1987 and has served as the
association's choir organizer for Region XXII; in addition, she
recently served as Alto II section leader for the All-State Treble
Choir; and
WHEREAS, This dynamic educator has demonstrated her
leadership skills as chair of the school's fine arts department, a
post she has held since 1998, and in February 2003 she was named
Teacher of the Month; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Long has shared her gifts with the students,
parents, and faculty of Clint ISD for 17 years, serving as a role
model for her students and making joyful music for her community,
and she is truly worthy of special recognition for her exemplary
tenure; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Sara J. Long for her many years of service
as a music teacher with Clint ISD and extend to her best wishes for
continued success in her new role as choir director of Socorro ISD's
El Dorado High School; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Long as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
