R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of a notable Texan is indeed a
notable occasion, and on July 21, 2003, Virginia Melugin will mark
this significant milestone in her life; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Melugin was born in the community of
Russellville, Arkansas; she moved by covered wagon to Oklahoma and
then to Era, Texas, where, at the age of eight, she met the young
farmer who would become her husband and with whom she shared many
happy and rewarding years of marriage; and
WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Era and wife of a Baptist
deacon, she fed every Baptist preacher that came to her community
for 25 years; this beloved woman is an avid reader, loves table
games, and remains devoted to her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, The kindness and friendship Mrs. Melugin has shared
with all who are privileged to know her have enriched the lives of
many people, and she is truly deserving of special legislative
recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Virginia Melugin on the momentous occasion
of her 100th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for
continued happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mrs. Melugin as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
