R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Southwest Texas State University women's
basketball team captured the Southland Conference Tournament
championship on March 15, 2003, defeating top-seeded UT-San Antonio
68-56 in a hotly contested matchup between two top-notch teams; and
WHEREAS, In their quest to attain the coveted tournament
title, the fourth-seeded Bobcats also defeated second-seeded
Stephen F. Austin State University, a victory that marked the first
time the Ladyjacks had been defeated on their home court in the
history of conference tournament play; and
WHEREAS, Schooled in the fundamentals by head coach Suzanne
Fox, the Bobcats received outstanding individual performances from
tournament MVP Tori Talbert and her fellow All-Tournament honorees
Julie Brooks and Heather Burrow; Coach Fox was supported in her
efforts by assistant coaches Will Flemons, Noel Johnson, and Megan
Kahn and administrative assistant Erin Magee; and
WHEREAS, The team also includes Alexis Marshall, Alphalisha
Johnson, Aleise Johnson, Sarah Dodds, Ashley McGruder, Christen
West, Colter Mize, Erika Pink, Brittany Loney, Ally Kelly, Kristie
Hinton, and Mercy Okorie; these dedicated student-athletes
demonstrated excellence on and off the court throughout the long
season; and
WHEREAS, The efforts of the team's coaches and players have
helped Southwest Texas State University to gain national exposure
that will undoubtedly benefit this venerable institution and all
those associated with it, and it is an honor to recognize the
accomplishments of the team at this time; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Coach Suzanne Fox, her staff, and
the members of the Southwest Texas State University women's
basketball team on their fine season and extend to them best wishes
for continued success in all their endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
