R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, An 80th birthday is truly cause for a celebration, and on May 18, 2003, Vaneta Moore Ward marked this significant occasion; and WHEREAS, A proud native Texan, she was born on May 18, 1923, in St. Joseph Hospital in Houston and is an alumna of Lamar High School; and WHEREAS, This lovely lady married R. D. "Bob" Ward on December 19, 1942, at Bering Memorial Methodist Church in her hometown; the couple enjoyed a happy and rewarding relationship that was blessed with two children; and WHEREAS, Following World War II, Mrs. Ward and her husband, the first combat veteran to return to Texas A&M University, moved near the campus so that he could finish veterinary school; she was one of two founding members of the Veterans' Wives Club, which grew to 100-plus women by 1946; the couple returned to Houston and Mr. Ward reopened the Ward Memorial Veterinary Hospital in Houston's Montrose area; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Ward takes great pride in her family, which includes her sons, Don and Gary; grandson, Wesley; granddaughters, Meghan and Donna; and great-grandchildren, Lily and Ava; and WHEREAS, A life member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, this esteemed woman has shared her time and energy with Women of Rotary, the Ladies Auxiliary to the Texas Veterinary Medical Association, the Ladies Auxiliary to the Harris County Veterinary Medical Association, and the Briar Ladies Club; and WHEREAS, For 80 years, Vaneta "Baw" Ward has lived a life full of caring and generosity; her warmth and wisdom enrich the lives of countless Texans and she is cherished by her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Vaneta Moore Ward on the occasion of her 80th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Ward as an expression of highest regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
