R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, William A. Shirley, Jr., of Dallas is celebrating the joyous occasion of his 60th birthday on May 24, 2003; and WHEREAS, Born in Springfield, Illinois, he moved with his family to San Angelo in the 1940s and learned the value of hard work at an early age at his family's small business, the Shirley Floral Company; and WHEREAS, After earning a degree in accounting from The University of Texas at Austin in 1965, Mr. Shirley moved to Dallas, where he has enjoyed a successful career in real estate and investments; an avid runner who was a member of his high school track team and the track team at Texas A&M University, he continues to strive to top his personal best and has run in numerous challenging races, including the New York City, Boston, and White Rock marathons; and WHEREAS, In all that he does, this outstanding Texan enjoys the love and support of his family, which includes his devoted wife, Colleen McGhee Shirley, his five children, Peyton Shirley, Sarah Shirley, Sterling Shirley Williams, Pascal Shirley, and Sofia Shirley, and his four grandchildren, Ioachim, Ana, Simona, and Pavel; and WHEREAS, With 60 years of wonderful memories, William Shirley truly has reason to celebrate, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring him at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate William A. Shirley, Jr., on his 60th birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Shirley as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
