R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, In January 2003 Michael W. Lehr retired from his position as executive director of the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA), having ably served the organization in that demanding position for nine years; and WHEREAS, Also TRTA's legislative coordinator since 1987, Mr. Lehr has devoted his career to the field of education; his extensive experience encompasses work as a teacher, coach, and administrator with St. Joseph High School in Abilene, the Christoval Independent School District, the Eola Independent School District, and the San Angelo Independent School District, as well as service to the Austin Independent School District as assistant director of special programs, director of developmental programs, administrative assistant to the superintendent, and executive director of personnel; and WHEREAS, He applied his considerable expertise as chief of staff to the Texas House of Representatives Committee on Public Education during the 64th Legislative Session, was chief of staff in 1976 to the Special Committee on Alternatives to Public School Financing for the Texas house, and was superintendent search consultant for the Texas Association of School Boards; and WHEREAS, Among the many well-deserved accolades garnered by Mr. Lehr for his accomplishments are the Texas Retired Educator and E. L. Galyean awards from TRTA, the National Retired Educator Award for the State of Texas from the National Retired Teachers Association, and appointment as executive director emeritus of TRTA; and WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure as executive director of TRTA, Mr. Lehr has represented the organization's membership with unwavering commitment, and it is indeed appropriate that his achievements receive special legislative recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Michael W. Lehr on his many significant contributions as executive director of the Texas Retired Teachers Association and extend to him sincere best wishes as he begins a new chapter in his life; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Lehr as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
