H.R. No. 1506


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Professor John H. Lienhard, a distinguished member of the University of Houston faculty, will be inducted into the National Academy of Engineering in recognition of his many exemplary contributions to the theory and practice of his profession; and WHEREAS, Dr. Lienhard, the M. D. Anderson Professor Emeritus of Technology and Culture in the Cullen College of Engineering, is the author of several books and hundreds of papers; the host of the public radio show "The Engines of Our Ingenuity," he has written a book due to be published by Oxford Press later this year entitled Inventing Modern: An Engineer Looks for Twentieth Century America; he was elected to the national academy "for creating the awareness of engineering in the development of cultures and civilizations," among other impressive professional achievements; and WHEREAS, The history of the Lone Star State has been forged by Texans who value innovation, creativity, careful analysis, and bold synthesis, and the work of this outstanding scientist will help shape the destiny of our state for many generations to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate John Lienhard of the University of Houston on his 2003 induction into the National Academy of Engineering and extend to him best wishes for continued success and happiness in his future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Lienhard as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
