R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Throughout high school, Rosalba Y. Castillo has
shown initiative, leadership, and a determination to succeed, and
her graduation from Milby High School in Houston provides a fitting
opportunity to honor this exceptional young woman; and
WHEREAS, With an outstanding grade point average and a
history of academic achievement, this outstanding Texan has been an
exemplary role model for her peers; selected as the Student of the
Month for February 2001, she has participated in the Mars
Settlement Design Competition and the 2002 Texas High School
Aerospace Scholars Program, and she placed first in the categories
of physics and chemistry at the district competition of the Texas
Alliance for Minorities in Engineering, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, Ms. Castillo has also been a member
and officer in a number of organizations, including the National
Honor Society, Science Honor Society, and Math Honor Society, which
she served as president; in addition, she has served as the
editor-in-chief for East End Stories, has been active in the
school's Salsa/Merengue club, and has provided more than 90 hours
of tutoring lessons to her fellow students over the last two years;
and
WHEREAS, With the help of a scholarship from Rhodia, Inc.,
she plans to attend the University of Houston in the fall and study
mechanical engineering; and
WHEREAS, The daughter of Rosa A. Castillo, Ms. Castillo is an
impressive young woman who has demonstrated exemplary commitment in
attaining her diploma; her dedication, enthusiasm, and
perseverance typify the finest qualities of this nation's young
people, and she is most deserving of special recognition; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Rosalba Y. Castillo on her
graduation from Milby High School and extend to her sincere best
wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Castillo as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
