H.R. No. 1521


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The DeSoto Independent School District will pay tribute to the memory of former school principal Dalton L. James by naming the district's administration building in his honor on October 12, 2003; and WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. James attended North Texas Teachers College in the mid-1920s before beginning his career as an educator and administrator; he earned his bachelor's degree from East Texas Teachers College in 1935, the same year in which he was named principal of DeSoto schools; and WHEREAS, The outstanding tenure of Mr. James as principal lasted until 1943, when he left to become a principal for the New Deal ISD in Lubbock County; during his years of service to the citizens of DeSoto, both he and his wife, Minnie, made numerous contributions to the school and a profound difference in the lives of its students; and WHEREAS, Mr. James devoted 39 years to public school administration in Texas before retiring in 1967 as superintendent of the New Deal ISD; though he died on October 1, 1993, he is fondly remembered by many for instilling in his students the belief that hard work leads to achievement and a bright future; and WHEREAS, Mr. James played a key role in the construction of the DeSoto ISD administration building, and it is indeed appropriate that this edifice serve as a memorial to him and to his legacy of excellence in education; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby recognize the dedication of the Dalton L. James DeSoto Independent School District Administration Building in honor of this esteemed educator and pay tribute to the memory of a remarkable man.
