R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dmitry Schneider has deservedly been selected as the
winner of the Frank P. Samford, Jr., chess fellowship, the most
prestigious honor of its kind in this nation; and
WHEREAS, A native of Chernigov, Ukraine, Mr. Schneider has
lived in the United States since 1991 and is currently completing
his freshman year at The University of Texas at Dallas, where he is
a member of the school's nationally recognized chess team; his
formidable chess skills are reflected in his 10-time selection as a
Pressman All-American, in the numerous chess titles he has
captured, and in his defeat of several established grandmasters;
and
WHEREAS, This gifted young man has represented the United
States in six world championships, finishing fourth in 2000 and
sixth in 2002, and in four Pan-American championships, earning one
gold and two bronze medals in those competitions; in addition, he
represented this nation in the 2001 and 2002 U.S.-China Chess
Summits; and
WHEREAS, Named a Samford Fellow for his chess prowess, work
ethic, dedication, and accomplishments, Mr. Schneider has attained
a remarkable record of achievement that continues to grow with each
passing year, and his most recent honor is an exciting reward for
the talent and commitment he has demonstrated throughout his
studies at The University of Texas at Dallas; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Dmitry Schneider on winning the
Frank P. Samford, Jr., chess fellowship and extend to him sincere
best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Schneider as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
