R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Wash Allen of KCOH-Radio in Houston has achieved outstanding success in the field of broadcasting during a remarkable career that has spanned 45 years; and WHEREAS, Currently the only African-American radio personality in the Houston market with a national radio show, Mr. Allen began his tenure in broadcasting at the age of 15 with WDIA-Radio in Memphis, Tennessee; he also worked at radio stations in Nashville, Tennessee; Cleveland, Ohio; Washington, D.C.; and Detroit, Michigan; before making his home in Houston at KCOH; and WHEREAS, Mr. Allen's extensive experience in the industry as a broadcaster, program director, and operations manager has given him a broad-based understanding of the medium and how best to meet the expectations of its audience; and WHEREAS, Indicative of Mr. Allen's stature in his field, Billboard Magazine named him one of the top three broadcasters in the United States and also awarded him its annual Radio Programming Forum Award; and WHEREAS, Mr. Allen is a tremendous asset to KCOH-Radio, as well as a welcome presence on the airwaves to his legion of listeners nationwide; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Wash Allen on his many notable achievements in radio broadcasting and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Allen as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
