H.R. No. 1553
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Lee County has lost a valued citizen and historian
with the passing of Ruby Vance of Lexington on April 14, 2003, at
the age of 93; and
WHEREAS, Born on April 1, 1910, in Cole Springs, the former
Ruby Nettles became the wife of Robert Lee Vance on August 19, 1930,
in Rockdale, and their union was blessed with three children; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong homemaker, Mrs. Vance was a member of
Lexington United Methodist Church and a beloved member of the
community who was honored, together with her husband, as the
recipient of an Outstanding Citizens Award in 1982; she had an
extensive knowledge of Lee County history and helped to author
books on the subject; Mrs. Vance belonged to the Lee County
Historical Association and the Lee County Heritage Society, and she
was a founding member of the Pioneer Village Log Cabins in
Lexington; and
WHEREAS, Deeply missed by all who knew her, this
distinguished woman played a significant role in helping to record
the history of the area for current and future generations, and she
leaves behind a lasting legacy of achievement and countless
friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Ruby Vance and extend
sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her son, Robert
J. Vance and his wife, Nita; to her daughter, Mary Beth Gibson and
her husband, Carlton; to her brother, J. M. "Mac" Nettles; to her
sister, Carrie B. Shea; to her four grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren; and to her other loved ones; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ruby Vance.
