R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, For 50 years, Kenneth Earl Blaschke has been a
practicing pharmacist in Smithville, and this native Texan has
distinguished himself among his fellow citizens through his
dedication and commitment to excellence in this vital profession
and as a leader in his community; and
WHEREAS, Born in Fayette County on October 16, 1931, Mr.
Blaschke attended Schulenburg High School and earned the nickname
"Killer" as a member of his high school football team; he pursued
his higher education at Blinn College and received his bachelor of
pharmacy degree from The University of Texas in 1953; and
WHEREAS, A U.S. Army veteran, he served as pharmacy
administrator at Fort Sam Houston from 1954 to 1955; the following
year, he was united in marriage with the Honorable Renee Dhossche
Blaschke, now Mayor of Smithville, with whom he has enjoyed a strong
and loving union blessed with three children and five
grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Blaschke owned and operated Ken's Rexall
Pharmacy for 40 years before joining the ranks of the semi-retired;
he remains active with Smithville Pharmacy and has enjoyed
membership with the American Pharmaceutical Association and the
Texas Pharmaceutical Association, the latter of which he served as
a member of the board of directors and chairman of the Bylaws
Revision Committee; and
WHEREAS, Named Knight of the Year in 2000 by the Knights of
Columbus, Mr. Blaschke has held numerous leadership positions
during his years of service with that exemplary organization; he is
a former president of the Smithville Chamber of Commerce, the
Smithville Lions Club, and the Smithville Little League, and has
served with distinction as a leading member of the Smithville
Optimist Club and the Bastrop County Head Start Board, as well as
other noteworthy local organizations; and
WHEREAS, In 1980, this esteemed gentleman was named
Outstanding Citizen by the Smithville Chamber of Commerce, and in
1991 the city of Smithville established Ken Blaschke Drive in honor
of his many accomplishments and contributions to the citizens of
Smithville; and
WHEREAS, Five decades of service to a community is truly an
admirable achievement, and Kenneth Blaschke continues to inspire
those who know him, demonstrating that one person can indeed make a
positive difference in the lives of his fellow citizens; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Kenneth Earl Blaschke for his 50 years of
service as a pharmacist for the citizens of Smithville and extend to
him best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Blaschke as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
