R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Arthur "Art" Lorfing of Kerrville on May 10, 2003, at the age of 84, has deeply saddened the family and many friends of this beloved man; and WHEREAS, A native Texan, he was born on September 15, 1918, in Hackberry, to Philip and Barbara Lorfing; he served his country with distinction as a member of the United States Coast Guard from 1941 to 1945; and WHEREAS, Mr. Lorfing and Johnnye L. Kinchloe exchanged wedding vows on May 11, 1947, in Hallettsville; the couple enjoyed a close and enduring relationship and Mr. Lorfing cherished his family that today includes a son, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Over the course of his fine career with Conoco in Denver, Colorado, Mr. Lorfing served as manager of the lands and minerals department, until his retirement in 1978; and WHEREAS, He contributed to the betterment of his community through his many civic endeavors; this generous individual served as a volunteer with the VA chaplain service and the American Heart Association and was a 10-year Republican party chairman; moreover, he was a valued congregant of Zion Lutheran Church and worked with the students of Starkey Elementary School as a mentor; and WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to share the friendship of Mr. Lorfing will long miss his presence, and he will be remembered with great affection and admiration for many years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Arthur "Art" Lorfing and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Johnnye L. Lorfing; to his son, Larry Lorfing, and his wife, Nancy; to his grandchildren, Don Lorfing, and his wife, Amy, and Scott Lorfing; to his great-grandchildren, Tristen and Kyrie Lorfing; to his sisters, Willie Werner and Adele Opela; to his brother, John Lorfing; and to all those who mourn the passing of this esteemed man; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Arthur Lorfing.
