R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Thomas "Harold" Lide of Fort Worth on April 1, 2003, at the age of 81, has brought a tremendous sense of sadness to the family and many friends of this esteemed Texan; and WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Lide was born in Kaufman on May 31, 1921; preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Delia Fuller Lide, he was fortunate to find love again with Evelyn Ann Lide, and their years together yielded a host of cherished memories; and WHEREAS, Mr. Lide worked for Consolidated/General Dynamics for 45 years, retiring in 1987 with a keen understanding of airplane engines, the nickname "Sky King," and the sincere admiration and respect of his colleagues; and WHEREAS, After retirement, he put his experience to work, restoring aircraft for Lockheed Martin with the Aviation Heritage Museum; he kept active in the community as the president of the Diamond Hill Senior Citizens Center, a representative to the Senior Citizen Services Advisory Council, the block captain of the Crime Prevention Unit for the Fort Worth Police Department, and a member of the Diamond Hill Methodist board of trustees; and in addition, he was known among his "White House" colleagues as a good domino player; and WHEREAS, Thomas "Harold" Lide was a man of wisdom, integrity, and strong faith, and while he will be greatly missed, his memory will live on in the hearts and minds of the many people who were fortunate to have known him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Thomas "Harold" Lide and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his beloved wife of nearly 30 years, Evelyn Ann Lide; to his daughters, Linda Lide Browder and her husband, James, and Donna Lide Wilson; to his stepson, Robert Housewright and his wife, Martha; to his stepdaughter, Patti McMurray; to his grandchildren, Jamie Lynn Browder, Julie Carol Browder, and Justin Wilson; to his step-grandchildren, J. A. Housewright, Janny Smiley, and Joshua McMurray; to his step-great-grandchildren, Mason and Samuel Smiley; to his sisters, Vernadene Holland and Janis Baskin; to his brother, Buck D. Lide; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Thomas "Harold" Lide.
