R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On July 12, 2003, the Booker T. Washington Alumni Association is holding a banquet to honor the late Gwendolyn Jackson, who passed away on January 5, 2003, for her years of service in the field of education; and WHEREAS, After attending the University of North Texas and Prairie View A&M University, from which she attained her master's degree, Ms. Jackson embarked on a career as an educator that spanned 41 years, during which time she was a teacher and band director in Gladewater, a choir and band director in Wichita Falls, and an elementary workshop teacher in Sierra Leone, Africa; and WHEREAS, Ms. Jackson maintained affiliations with many professional organizations, including the Texas State Teachers Association, Retired Teachers Association, Association of Music Teachers, Partners in Education, and the Booker T. Washington Alumni Association; in addition, she also participated in a variety of worthy community organizations and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, where she served the congregation as deaconess, musician, publicity chairperson, and as a member of WMU; and WHEREAS, A person whose life is a continuing inspiration to her family and friends, as well as her former coworkers and students, Ms. Jackson is a shining example of the ability of one person to make a difference in the lives of many, and her work during her time on this earth will continue to enrich all those who were fortunate enough to know her; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby join with the Booker T. Washington Alumni Association in honoring the contributions of the late Gwendolyn Jackson to the cause of education and extend sincere sympathy to her family: to her brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Lillian McDonald; to her niece, Kim McDonald Patterson; to her foster children, Rubye and Roy F. Lindsay; to her cousin, Ethel White; to her special friends, Valeria and William Phillips; and to the other relatives and many friends of this esteemed woman; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day it do so in honor of Gwendolyn Jackson.
