R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The J.C. Ramirez store in Roma has been an important
part of the community for a century and a half, and this historic
establishment is indeed worthy of recognition; and
WHEREAS, Opened in 1848 by the Garcia Saenz family, the store
was initially located in the Loeca dia Garcia residence and was the
first commercial building in Roma after the Treaty of Guadalupe
Hidalgo; when Pablo Ramirez married Josefa Garcia in the mid to late
1800s, he moved the business, reopening it as the Pablo Ramirez
Store and selling anything area residents might need, including
groceries, dresses, shoes, wagons, ointments for humans and for
animals, and veterinary equipment; and
WHEREAS, Passed down through generations of the Ramirez
family, the store is currently run by Cecilia Benavides, the
great-granddaughter of Pablo Ramirez, and her husband Noel; and
WHEREAS, J.C. Ramirez Co., Inc., is an example of the
entrepreneurial spirit that has made our country strong, and
Ramirez family members are truly deserving of special recognition
for their achievements; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby recognize J.C. Ramirez Co., Inc., of Roma, a
truly exceptional Texas business, and extend to its owners best
wishes for many more years of success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the family as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
