R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders have been a cultural
phenomenon since their first appearance on the sidelines in 1972,
and the long-standing efforts by the members of this unique dance
troupe to use their celebrity to benefit others makes them worthy of
commendation; and
WHEREAS, Now in their 25th year of association with the USO
and Department of Defense, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders have
brought a touch of home to American service men and women across the
globe, and they were chosen to receive the USO's "50th Anniversary
Award" and its inaugural "Spirit of Hope Award," as well as the VFW
"Hall of Fame Award"; and
WHEREAS, Other worthy beneficiaries of the group's
charitable work include the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the
Salvation Army, the Veteran's Administration hospitals, the March
of Dimes, and the American Heart Association; and
WHEREAS, The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders have performed at
thousands of events around the country, including county fairs,
collegiate sporting events, conventions, award ceremonies, and on
May 20, 2003, they put in a welcome appearance at the Texas House of
Representatives members' football game; and
WHEREAS, Determined to make a positive difference in the
lives of those they encounter, these lovely and talented young
women have traveled far and wide as goodwill ambassadors of the
Dallas Cowboys, the City of Dallas, and the State of Texas, and they
are indeed worthy of special legislative recognition at this time;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby commend the members of the Dallas Cowboys
Cheerleaders on their many notable contributions to their fellow
Texans and Americans and extend to them sincere best wishes for
continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders as an expression of
high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
