H.R. No. 1653
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Victoria Park, a housing community designed to offer
first-time home buyers and first-time move-up buyers affordable,
personalized homes in a desirable location, is holding its grand
opening on May 31, 2003; and
WHEREAS, Located in Southeast Houston, this noteworthy new
neighborhood covers more than 26 acres and has spaces for 171 homes;
of those, almost 80 homesites were sold before the official
opening; and
WHEREAS, Victoria Park is a project of American CityVista, a
partnership between former housing secretary and San Antonio mayor
Henry Cisneros and KB Home formed to address the growing nationwide
need for reasonably priced homes in central, urban neighborhoods;
American CityVista has created similar successful communities in
Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and Laredo, as well as in Los Angeles;
and
WHEREAS, The provision of high-quality, reasonably priced
new family homes fills an important housing need in this state, and
all those affiliated with this exemplary endeavor indeed merit
special recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby commend Henry Cisneros and American CityVista
for their successful efforts to establish Victoria Park and other
communities offering affordable housing in this state; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Cisneros and American CityVista as an expression
of best wishes and high regard from the Texas House of
Representatives.
