R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Academic Decathlon team from Dobie High School in Houston has achieved impressive success by placing third overall and second in the large schools division at the 2003 U.S. Academic Decathlon national meet in Erie, Pennsylvania; and WHEREAS, During competition at this prestigious event, the Dobie team earned 48,625.4 points out of a possible 60,000, and took first place in the Super Quiz portion of the competition, which was on oceanography; and WHEREAS, The exceptional students who are the members of this year's team are John Farhad Dokhani, Jonathan Ngo, Shannon Valley, Bonnie Allen, Brandt Smith, David Vanek, John Glosup, Ryan Smith, and Zainab Naqvi; and WHEREAS, Outstanding guidance and inspiration were provided by team coaches Richard Golenko and Trish Boudra, whose intense preparation helped enable the students to perform so well; and WHEREAS, The determination and academic excellence demonstrated by all the members of the Dobie High School Academic Decathlon team are truly impressive, and it is a privilege to commend them on their success in national competition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Dobie High School Academic Decathlon team members on their achievement at the 2003 U.S. Academic Decathlon meet and extend to these notable scholars sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
