H.R. No. 1691
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Mary A. Gonzalez has been named Elementary Teacher
of the Year for 2002-2003 by the Weslaco Independent School
District (ISD); and
WHEREAS, The award acknowledges teachers who are creative and
successful with students, have excellent classroom organizational
skills, present subject matter in meaningful ways, promote positive
learning environments for all students, and work well with
colleagues, parents, and the community, and Mrs. Gonzalez truly
meets each of these criteria; and
WHEREAS, A cum laude graduate of The University of Texas--Pan
American with a bachelor's degree in business administration and
Texas A&M--Kingsville with a master's degree in occupational
training and development with a 4.0 grade point average, Mrs.
Gonzalez has always had a strong passion for educational excellence
for both herself and her students; her desire to succeed was fueled
by the encouragement she received from her mother and her family,
and she began teaching accounting in 1979; and
WHEREAS, A dedicated, compassionate educator for 24 years,
she has taught accounting, keyboarding, computer/data processing,
and business law to high school students; she is a successful
University Interscholastic League academic coach for accounting
and a sponsor for Business Professionals of America and has been
actively involved with the Parent Teacher Organization; and
WHEREAS, Endeavoring to inspire a passion for learning and
equip young Texans with the skills and knowledge necessary for
success is truly a commendable undertaking; during her tenure with
Weslaco ISD, Mary A. Gonzalez has earned a special place in the
hearts of many of her past and current students and the respect and
admiration of her colleagues and friends, and she truly merits
legislative recognition for her most recent achievement; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Mary A. Gonzalez on being named
2002-2003 Elementary Teacher of the Year by the Weslaco Independent
School District and extend to her best wishes for continued success
and happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mrs. Gonzalez as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
