H.R. No. 1695


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Honorable James R. "Rick" Stacy recently concluded a distinguished seven-year tenure as mayor of the City of Southlake, and his dedication to serving his fellow citizens as a public official is truly worthy of special recognition; and WHEREAS, Born in Dallas on December 29, 1947, Mr. Stacy is a 1966 graduate of Grapevine High School; he completed his college degree at the University of North Texas, where he majored in industrial management, before embarking on a remarkable career in business in the field of home furnishings; over the past 12 years he has transformed his family's once-struggling furniture company into a highly successful enterprise, one that has been honored by Baylor University as an "Outstanding Small Business" and one that today boasts a beautiful 250,000-square-foot flagship store; and WHEREAS, This civic-minded individual, who became mayor of Southlake in 1996, was an esteemed member of the local city council for two years and, additionally, served on the Southlake Parks Development Corporation from 1996 to 2003; over the course of his career in public service, he helped to significantly reduce the city's debt costs and was instrumental in bringing two major corporations, Sabre National Headquarters and the Verizon Wireless Control Center, to the city of Southlake; and WHEREAS, Mr. Stacy is a strong supporter of many important Tarrant County charities and organizations, including the Lions Club, the Southlake CARS Program, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Mercy Med Flight, the National Charity League, and the Carroll I.S.D. Band Boosters; and WHEREAS, For the past 35 years he has been happily married to his cherished wife, Diane, and together the couple have lovingly built a happy homelife for their four children, Dorian, Elizabeth, Ashley, and Jay, all of whom can take immense pride in their father's many exemplary achievements as an elected official, a businessman, and a community leader; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby commend the Honorable Rick Stacy on his invaluable contributions to the city of Southlake and extend to him best wishes for continued happiness and success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Stacy as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
