H.R. No. 1702
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On May 30, 2003, Bill Davis, pastor of the
Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Houston, is serving as Pastor of
the Day for the Texas House of Representatives; and
WHEREAS, A native of San Antonio, Father Davis attended
Central Catholic High School and St. Anthony's High School and went
on to earn his bachelor's and master's degrees from Oblate College
and a second master's degree in teaching political science from
Loyola University in Los Angeles; he was ordained as a priest in
1957 into an order, Oblates of Mary Immaculate, that specializes in
serving poor parishes and poor countries; and
WHEREAS, Father Davis assumed his first teaching position in
Mexico City in 1958, and since that time, he has taught, served in
churches in San Antonio and Houston, and spent a year sharing his
faith as a missionary in Zambia, Africa; from a family with a long
history of public as well as religious service, he is the grandson
of a Bexar County judge, son of a district judge, brother of an
assistant attorney general, and nephew of a San Antonio district
attorney; and
WHEREAS, Father Davis continues to minister beyond the walls
of his church as he guides us with a spiritual message on this day,
and it is most fitting that the members of this chamber express
appreciation to him for sharing his time in behalf of this body;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby thank Father Bill Davis for serving as Pastor of
the Day for the Texas House of Representatives; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Father Davis as an expression of high regard and best
wishes by the Texas House of Representatives.
