R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Sharon Cunningham of Waco is retiring from her
position as director of guidance/counseling for Connally
Independent School District (CISD), and this occasion offers an
excellent opportunity to pay tribute to this esteemed educator; and
WHEREAS, A Connally High School alumnus, Mrs. Cunningham
pursued her higher education at North Texas State University, where
she earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education and a master's
degree in education; and
WHEREAS, She began her teaching career at LaVega Intermediate
School and has since taught students at East LaVega Elementary
School and Connally High School; she completed her Licensed
Professional Counselor certification at Baylor University in 1991
and has worked as a counselor with CISD since 1987; and
WHEREAS, A member of numerous professional organizations,
including the Association of Texas Professional Educators, the
American Counseling Association, the Texas Counseling Association,
and the Texas School Counseling Association, Mrs. Cunningham has
demonstrated extraordinary concern for and commitment to the many
students whom she has counseled throughout her tenure; and
WHEREAS, She is a recipient of the Heart of Texas Counseling
Association's 2003 Outstanding High School Counselor Award and the
CISD school board's 2001 Recognition Award; she was also honored in
1994 as the Heart of Texas Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse
Volunteer of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Cunningham is planning to continue her work
with the Center for Children and Families, but she will truly be
missed by the faculty, staff, and students of Connally Independent
School District, for her exemplary efforts have had a profound
effect on them all; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Sharon Cunningham on the occasion of her
retirement from Connally Independent School District and extend to
her best wishes for happiness and success in the years to come; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mrs. Cunningham as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
