R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Lorenza Zuniga is stepping down as a trustee of San
Elizario Independent School District after eight years of dedicated
service, and this occasion provides an opportunity to honor her for
her hard work and dedication; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Zuniga's determination to work for positive
changes in public education began after she observed a learning
environment that she deemed unacceptable and incapable of meeting
the needs of her children and other students; and
WHEREAS, A certified community health worker, or promotora de
salud, with the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center's Office of
Border Health, she is a proponent of a holistic view of health and
well-being that includes emphasis on the physical, spiritual,
social, and mental aspects of health care; and
WHEREAS, This proactive parent brought this philosophy to her
work with the board, particularly in her efforts in support of the
newly completed Excel Academy; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Zuniga has embraced and met the challenges of
this demanding role throughout her eight-year tenure on the board,
and she will undoubtedly continue to serve her fellow residents in
her new home in the Clint school district with the same level of
commitment and enthusiasm; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Lorenza Zuniga for her eight years of
service on the San Elizario ISD board of trustees and extend to her
best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mrs. Zuniga as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
