R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Valeria Barraza, a senior at San Elizario High School, has been selected to receive a Salute to Education scholarship, and she is most deserving of this prestigious honor; and WHEREAS, Awarded by Ford and Lincoln-Mercury dealers, the Salute to Education scholarships are based on community service, leadership, and academic achievement, all areas in which Ms. Barraza excels; and WHEREAS, In addition to receiving her own award, this inspirational young Texan wrote an essay praising one of her teachers, Leticia Monsivais, and her efforts garnered the school a $1,000 grant, which will be used to purchase calculus textbooks; and WHEREAS, Ms. Barraza's accomplishments are a source of tremendous pride to her family, friends, teachers, and fellow students, and it is appropriate that she receive special recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Valeria Barraza on winning a Salute to Education scholarship and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Barraza as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
