R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Jeanne Lavon Everitt has been named Elementary Teacher of the Year for 2002-2003 by the Weslaco Independent School District (ISD), and in light of this accomplishment, she is indeed deserving of special recognition; and WHEREAS, The award acknowledges teachers who are creative and successful with students, have excellent classroom organizational skills, present subject matter in meaningful ways, promote positive learning environments for all students, and work well with colleagues, parents, and the community, and Mrs. Everitt truly meets each of these criteria; and WHEREAS, Inspired to become an educator by a compassionate second-grade teacher, Mrs. Everitt earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a master's degree in administration from The University of Texas--Pan American, and began her teaching career in 1972; and WHEREAS, Now, more than three decades later, she teaches fifth-grade math and social studies and is a University Interscholastic League coach; and WHEREAS, Endeavoring to inspire a passion for learning and equip young Texans with the skills and knowledge necessary for success is a most commendable undertaking; during her tenure with Weslaco ISD, Jeanne Lavon Everitt has earned a special place in the hearts of many of her students and the lasting respect and admiration of her colleagues and friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Jeanne Lavon Everitt on being named 2002-2003 Elementary Teacher of the Year by the Weslaco Independent School District and extend sincere best wishes to her for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Everitt as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
