R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The people of South Texas have a long and proud
tradition of service in the armed forces of the United States, and
Jose Simon Franco has sustained that tradition through his valiant
efforts in the Iraqi campaign; and
WHEREAS, A three-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Franco
saw duty in the Persian Gulf while stationed on the aircraft carrier
USS Constellation; his ship set sail from its home port in San Diego
Bay on November 2, 2002, in preparation for war with Iraq, and
returns to San Diego on June 2, 2003; Mr. Franco is the son of Simon
Franco and a graduate of Edcouch-Elsa High School; and
WHEREAS, On April 10, 2003, citizens of the Delta area
gathered at the city hall in Elsa to pay tribute to Mr. Franco and
other courageous service members from the surrounding communities;
and
WHEREAS, Representative Aaron Peña has justly recognized
Jose Simon Franco in the Texas House of Representatives, for
citizens across the country owe this resolute American and his
fellow servicemen an immeasurable debt of gratitude for the burdens
and sacrifice they have assumed, and for their unwavering
dedication to those rights and ideals that have made this nation,
for so many around the world, the promised land; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Jose Simon Franco for his service in the
Iraqi war and extend to him profound appreciation for his brave and
steadfast efforts in this country's behalf; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Franco as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
