H.R. No. 1751


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of Manuel "Manny" Ruiz of El Paso were deeply saddened by the passing of this esteemed Texan on November 28, 2002, at the age of 78; and WHEREAS, Born on March 1, 1924, in San Benito, Mr. Ruiz was a 35-year resident of El Paso and a distinguished veteran of the U.S. Army; he served in World War II, in the Korean War, and for two tours in Vietnam, earning medals for his valor, including a Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Joint Service Commendation Medal; and WHEREAS, A valued member of the community who successfully ran his own business, Ruiz's Produce, for more than 25 years, Mr. Ruiz was a man devoted to his family and one who enjoyed life; he took great delight in Dunkin' Donuts, which he visited daily--sometimes more than once--and he liked to play the Texas Lottery scratch-off cards, which he made sure to purchase every day; and WHEREAS, Mr. Ruiz is remembered for the love and laughter that he brought into the lives of others, and he lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Manuel "Manny" Ruiz and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his beloved wife, Juanita Ruiz; to his children, Linda Luster, Ismael Garcia, Mirella Murillo, Lilia Ruiz, and Luis Manuel Ruiz; to his eight grandchildren; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Manuel Ruiz.
