R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Burges High School journalism class has garnered
numerous awards for its outstanding publications during the
2002-2003 school year; and
WHEREAS, For its work on the student newspaper, the Stampede,
the class was named the recipient of the Pacemaker Award from the
National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA), took second place in
the NSPA's Best in Show category, and earned the Gold Star Award at
the Interscholastic League Press Conference Newspaper Awards; and
WHEREAS, Hoofbeats, the school yearbook, earned the Columbia
Scholastic Press Association's Silver Crown Award, the NSPA's
Pacemaker Award, and the Silver Star Award at the Interscholastic
League Press Conference Newspaper Awards; and
WHEREAS, Under the able direction of teacher Pat Monroe,
these talented young Texans have demonstrated exceptional
ingenuity, skill, and maturity in achieving these honors, and it is
truly a pleasure to honor them at this time; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the students of the Burges High
School journalism class for their remarkable achievements in the
medium of print journalism and extend to them sincere best wishes
for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the class as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
