R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Since the 1930s the citizens of Cherokee County,
once known as the "Tomato Capital of the World," have gathered
together each year to host the Jacksonville Tomato Festival; and
WHEREAS, The event features live entertainment and games and
sports competitions, including volleyball tournaments, fishing
contests, and tomato shoots; it has a program of tomato tales, a
tomato history display, and the Couch Tomato "No Sweat" Olympics;
and
WHEREAS, The annual Jacksonville Tomato Festival provides a
time for Texans to set aside the cares of daily life and enjoy the
bounty of a successful harvest season; a tribute to the
agricultural heritage of Cherokee County, this wonderful event is
truly deserving of special praise and support; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby recognize the Jacksonville Tomato Festival, to
be held this year on June 14, 2003, and commend all those associated
with this notable event for their hard work in ensuring its
continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Jacksonville Tomato Festival as an expression of
high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
