R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Children are the Lone Star State's most precious
resource, and dedicated education professionals like John and Lila
Driver, who served in the Garland Independent School District for
more than 30 years before retiring in 2001, are truly deserving of
our heartfelt gratitude; and
WHEREAS, After receiving a bachelor's degree from Southern
Methodist University and a master's degree in education from North
Texas State University, Mr. Driver began a 37-year tenure with the
Garland ISD; he was assistant principal of O'Banion Middle School
and principal of Handley Elementary School and Daugherty Elementary
School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Driver is a graduate of Texas Woman's
University, where she received a bachelor's degree and a master's
degree in education; she served the Garland ISD with distinction
for 35 years as a teacher at Centerville Elementary School and
O'Banion Middle School; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding couple have instructed and
inspired generations of students, providing them with a solid
foundation on which to build, and for their many years of service to
the children of Garland they are indeed worthy of praise; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby honor John and Lila Driver for their outstanding
contributions to the students of the Garland Independent School
District and extend to them sincere best wishes for the future; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Driver as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives.
