R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel John Robert Wallace celebrated
his 60th birthday on May 13, 2003, and it is indeed appropriate to
recognize him on this momentous occasion; and
WHEREAS, Born May 13, 1943, Colonel Wallace attended East
Texas Baptist College on a basketball scholarship and graduated in
the spring of 1967; he joined the air force in October of that year
and served his country for more than 22 years, retiring in May 1989;
and
WHEREAS, Colonel Wallace earned the nickname "Barrier Bob"
after missing the runway in flight school; that moniker
notwithstanding, he capably piloted B-52s and T-38s while stationed
in Bangkok, Thailand, and rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel;
and
WHEREAS, During his career, he was stationed at Grand Fork
Air Force Base in North Dakota, Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha,
Nebraska, Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, Louisiana, and
Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth; and
WHEREAS, Devoted to his country and to his wife, Cathy, whom
he married on April 27, 1974, Colonel Wallace spends free time
pursuing his hobbies, which include woodworking, hunting, fishing,
and camping; and
WHEREAS, "Barrier Bob" Wallace is a true patriot and a man of
integrity and honor, and it is a pleasure to join in paying tribute
to him as he begins his seventh decade; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Lieutenant Colonel John Robert Wallace on
the occasion of his 60th birthday and extend to him best wishes for
continued success and happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Colonel Wallace as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
