H.R. No. 1853
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Jose Serna has received a much-deserved honor with
his nomination to the Senior Citizens Hall of Fame by the Mayors
Advisory Board on Aging; and
WHEREAS, In 1990, Mr. Serna recruited 17 senior citizens to
start a center in conjunction with the Retired Seniors Volunteer
Program; the first president of the Socorro Senior Citizens
Nutrition Center, he currently is serving as the vice president;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Serna reads to the students at H. D. Hilley
Elementary School as part of the Rocking Chair Readers program, and
he interacts with students and helps with their arts and crafts
activities; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Serna has benefited his fellow senior citizens
by ably serving on the Association Area on Aging board and the board
of Tierra Verde, which secures housing for needy senior citizens;
and
WHEREAS, Through his tireless efforts and skillful
leadership, Mr. Serna has contributed to the betterment of the
lives of others, and he is most deserving of special recognition;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Jose Serna on his nomination to the
Senior Citizens Hall of Fame and extend to him warmest best wishes
for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Serna as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
