H.R. No. 1882


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Caroline Irene Mannschreck Brady of Waco on May 23, 2003, at the age of 95, has deeply saddened the family and many friends of this esteemed woman; and WHEREAS, Born on November 24, 1907, into the German immigrant family of Carl and Rose Mannschreck, in McAlester, Oklahoma, Mrs. Brady was the second of four children and their only daughter; and WHEREAS, She earned her diploma from Washita High School and attended Oklahoma College for Women for one year before transferring to Oklahoma A&M, where she received a bachelor's degree in home economics; after earning a master's degree in education from Southwestern State Teacher's College, she joined the staff at Anadarko High School, beginning a notable career that spanned more than 30 years; and WHEREAS, In 1929, this lovely lady married Edgar W. Brady, Anadarko High School's football coach, and the couple subsequently worked in Canyon, Texas, and in several communities in Oklahoma; Mrs. Brady served as a home economics instructor early in her career, before shifting her focus to elementary education and later to the responsibilities of principal; she retired in 1973; and WHEREAS, During the course of nearly 60 years of a close and rewarding marriage, Mrs. Brady and her husband raised crops and cattle on family farms in Beckham County while maintaining careers and raising their own three children; they also generously provided a home for two teenagers, Roger and D. B. Pearson, during the difficult years of the Great Depression; and WHEREAS, A resident of Waco since 1992, Mrs. Brady was a valued congregant of the Church of Christ throughout her lifetime, serving as a Sunday school teacher and coordinator of efforts to provide clothing and food for needy individuals; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Brady was an inspiring model of faith and service, and she will be remembered with great affection and admiration for many years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of Caroline Irene Mannschreck Brady and extend sincere sympathy to her family: to her children, Mark Edward Brady and his wife, Samie, Carole Beth Mansfield and her husband, Mike, and Roger Alan Brady and his wife, Litha; to her grandchildren, Brooke Penland, Michelle Dunnam, Stephanie Pennington, Renee Faulconer, and Litha Caroline, Eryn, and Andrew Brady; to her eight great-grandchildren; and to all those who mourn the passing of this beloved woman; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Caroline Irene Mannschreck Brady.
