R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On June 27, 2003, Beverly Kerl Mitchell-Brooks,
president and chief executive officer of the Dallas Urban League,
is being awarded the Non Profit Executive Award by Legal Aid of
NorthWest Texas during the 3rd Annual Women's Advocacy Awards
event; and
WHEREAS, The first African American to earn a master of
science degree in pure science from Texas Woman's University, Dr.
Mitchell-Brooks gained the respect and admiration of many within
the scientific community for her work as an environmental
specialist and college professor before embarking on her second
career in public service; and
WHEREAS, Before her work with the Dallas Urban League, this
esteemed civic leader was the director of the Martin Luther King
Center as well as the executive director of the Greater Dallas
Community Relations Commission; she has also given generously of
her time and talents in support of the Dallas Together Forum,
Methodist Medical Center Board, Leadership Dallas, and Washington
Mutual Community Advisory Council as well as many other
organizations; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Mitchell-Brooks is an outstanding Texan who has
made tremendous contributions to improving the lives of women
living in poverty, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring her at
this time; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Beverly Kerl Mitchell-Brooks on
her receipt of the Non Profit Executive Award presented by Legal Aid
of NorthWest Texas and extend to her sincere best wishes for
continued success and happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Dr. Mitchell-Brooks as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives.
