R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Demonstrating a courageous spirit and a determination to make a better life for himself and his family, Duong Du Hai of Houston has achieved notable professional success and is making significant contributions to his new home; and WHEREAS, Coming to Houston as a penniless refugee from South Vietnam, Mr. Duong worked hard to establish his own business; he now owns a chain of Hong Kong Supermarkets as well as his own Hong Kong City Mall in Vietnam Town in Houston; and WHEREAS, Mr. Duong has created hundreds of jobs for the Houston area, and he has donated generously to charitable foundations and institutions of higher learning; and WHEREAS, On June 7, 2003, Mr. Duong celebrates the fourth anniversary of the grand opening of his Hong Kong City Mall, and this occasion is a fitting opportunity to recognize one of Houston's truly outstanding citizens; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby honor Duong Du Hai for his community service, philanthropy, and business leadership and extend to him best wishes for future happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Duong as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
