R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes great pleasure in recognizing Jim Hogg County for its valuable contributions to the Lone Star State; and WHEREAS, Originally part of Brooks County and named in honor of Governor James Stephen Hogg, Jim Hogg County was established in the early part of the 20th century as a result of legislation sponsored by State Representative D. W. Glasswork during his first term in office; Hebbronville, with its railroad station, was made the county seat; and WHEREAS, The history of this fine county dates back to the time of the Coahuiltecan Indians, who inhabited the area for many years; the area has been home to many successful ranches, including the Randado Ranch, which was established by Hipolito Garcia in 1836; the first commercial oil well in the area, Killam No. 3, initiated the production of oil in Jim Hogg County and marked the beginning of a major industry in the area; and WHEREAS, Today, the history of the county is being written not only by its noteworthy residents, but also by its dedicated elected county officials and county employees whose outstanding public service is truly deserving of special recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby honor the county officials, employees, and residents of Jim Hogg County and extend to them sincere best wishes for the future.
